A Tang Soo Do studio is called a dojang; students are required to bow and salute the flags before entering and leaving the training area or dojang.

Uniforms are not costumes; students should only wear their uniforms while at class.

It is customary for the person leading the group to call the class to attention when a black belt enters or leaves the training area. At that point, the class should face the black belt and bow.

At some point, students will have the opportunity to eat lunch with fellow martial artists. This could happen at training clinics, training camps, picnics, or banquets. It is protocol to wait to eat until the highest ranking instructor begins to eat. This puts the responsibility of waiting for everyone to be served before the group begins to eat, on the highest ranking person.

When students begin training, they become members of the WTSDA. The association will issue a gup number for each student. The students will line up in class according to gup number. The highest ranking student will normally have the lowest gup number and will stand in the first position. We line up in order of rank, from right to left.

Students should address instructors as Miss, Mr., Mrs., Sir, or Ma'am. Students should address all black belts in the same manner. We recognizes the dedication required to achieve black belt, and all black belts regardless of age, earn the right of a formal title.
