Hidden Tiger Tang Soo Do
A martial arts logo plays a dual role. Visually, it acts as a studio identifier, but philosophically it is a representation of the school, instructor, and students. Our logo has four philosophical components:
The tiger represents heritage; it is a symbol of my instructors. Although hidden from my students, through me they are teaching my classes.
To the beginning student, the hidden tiger represents the martial arts potential that exists within each of them.
To the advanced student, it represents humility and the self-control necessary to use their Tang Soo Do abilities responsibly outside of the training hall.
The bamboo characterizes the foundation of the school and the student. The bamboo plant's root system or foundation symbolizes perseverance and indomitable spirit. Once the plant is established, it is very difficult to eradicate. The bamboo flourishes as much below ground as it does above. When trying to eliminate the plant, the soil from the whole of the surrounding area must be removed. If even a small piece of root is left behind, the plant will regenerate and again flourish.
The dragon, keystone, and tiger together are a direct representation of my instructor's school, Keystone Martial Arts. It is the studio were we began our training, and part of Keystone's logo.
